The benefits of Quartzene are recognized by industries working to develop new materials for sustainable solutions. The applications are endless, and Svenska Aerogel has chosen four main segments with significant potential for a large-scale commercial breakthrough. Quartzene – A promising thermal insulator Aerogel 1 The purpose of this project was to study Svenska Aerogel AB’s product Quartzene®, and develop its capacity as a thermal insulator. The Quartzene project will include trials with four potential customers focusing on three (3) application areas: 1) thermal insulation products for buildings and other constructed facilities, 2) thermal insulation of cellulose based food packaging products, and 3) thermal insulation of thin surface treatments/coatings for the automotive industry. The Quartzene® material is a multiscale material with structures at different length scales.

Svenska Aerogel produces a nano-porous silica based material, Quartzene, which is used for filtration, insulation and coatings. The company sells Quartzene on  2 Oct 2019 Technical textile with Quartzene – QuarInTex. Commercialization of the product will be conducted in a number of different applications, primarily in insulation, paint and coatings, and filtration, in close cooperation with partners in the industry. Quartzene® Traditional silica aerogel is manufactured according to the so-called sol-gel method, which involves the synthesis of a porous silica network in a wet process. Subsequent drying must be performed under supercritical conditions for the solvent used in order to avoid shrinkage or collapse of the silica network under the influence of the surface tension. Quartzene® is a mesoporous material similar to aerogels.
